Hutthari celebrated with fervour in Kushalnagar

Irrespective of age, the members clad in their traditional attire, took part in the Hutthari procession organised by the Kodava and Gowda Samaja. They danced to the beats of Oddolaga. Oddolaga signifies welcoming of ‘Dhaanyalakshmi’ (the goddess of grains).

The participation of the members of various communities including Muslims and Christians added colour to the fest that heralded the unity and harmony of the land.
First, the members observed the ritual of tying ‘nere’ at the Kodava Samaja at 7.30 pm and proceeded to the nearby paddy field. Kodava Sahitya Academy former president Bacharaniyanda P Appanna offered traditional pooja and cut the fresh corns. Marking the occasion, Palangappa fired in the air. Kodava Samaja President Cholanda A Muddappa, Secretaries M B Monnappa, K A Nanaiah distributed the corns to the gathered members.

Later, the corns along with ‘kuthi’ were taken in a procession. ‘Thambittu’ and ‘payasam’ prepared with the new rice were distributed to the participants. Kodava Sahitya Academy member Ranu Appanna, Samaja Joint Secretary T M Machaiah, Treasurer M E Ganesh were present.

In the programme organised by Gowda Samaja, the organisers tied ‘nere’ at the Samaja and offered pooja at the Ganapathi Temple in the city. Later, the group proceeded to the fields of Mullusoge M V Shianna in a procession where corns were distributed.

Samaja President Amemane Kamala Ganapathi, Kechappana Mohan, Kumbhagowdana Raghu, Kallachana Bhageerathi, Kunnhali Tilak, Kemmarana Uttappa and others were present. Car Owners and Drivers Association too organised a Hutthari procession.
