Income Tax Department officials conducted a search on local legislator Manappa Vajjal’s residence and took stock of cash, silver, gold articles and records. The exercise lasted for over 20 hours on Wednesday.

The officials visited various banks including the local Syndicate Bank and State Bank of Hyderabad and obtained information about the accounts of Vajjal and his family members.

The transactions in these accounts have been  temporarily suspended, a source said.

When contacted, Vajjal’s brother Nagappa Vajjal said, “The Income Tax Department officials visited the house. We are contractors and therefore, had kept Rs 1.80 crore to disburse wages to the labourers. The officials have told us to provide them records in this regard within a week. Manappa Vajjal was not present in the house during the raid”.

He clarified that neither cash nor any valuable was seized.
