IAF may lift water from Nagu Dam to douse Bandipur fire

The Indian Air Force is likely to lift water from Nagu Dam to douse the fire at Bandipur National Park. The helicopters will start operation at 5 pm.

The Forest Department Officials, including PCCF and Forest Minister Satish Jarkiholi, conducted an aerial survey through helicopters to assess the damage to the forest and to look at the possibilities to douse the fire.

Following the request from the state government, the IAF will send four helicopters to douse the fire in the forest region. The helicopters are likely to commence work at 5 pm, said an officer.

Forest Department has suggested lifting of water from Nagu Reservoir, in H D Kote taluk, in Mysuru district.

Minister visits Gopalaswami Betta

Forest Minister Satish Jarkiholi on Monday visited Himavad Gopalaswami Betta where fire destroyed the vegetation.

Following the fire, entry to the tourists to Gopalaswami temple was banned. The fire engulfed near the hill on Saturday and continued till Monday. However, rituals were performed at the temple.
