Twenty five fishermen, trapped in their fishing boat, were rescued by Karwar-based Indian Coast Guard on Thursday.

A Karwar based fishing boat, Yashwardhan, with 25 crew members begun listing in mid sea.

On being informed about the local fishermen being in distress by a local fisherman Ghanshyam, the Coast Guard swung into act at 1.30 pm. The boat was found 10 nautical mile away from Karwar at Loliem Pt (Polen).

Diversion

Indian Coast Guard Ship C-155, based in Karwar for routine patrolling, was immediately diverted to render assistance to fishing boat in distress.

As many as 17 crew members were taken on board the Coast Guard boat. The remaining crew members with five Coast Guard personnel drained the water which had flooded the boat. Later, the fishing boat was towed to Karwar port.
