JD(S) State President H D Kumaraswamy said that if a coalition government becomes inevitable due to a fractured verdict in the May 12 elections, his party would join hands with the party that would agree to implement JD(S)'s programs.

Speaking at a JD(S) Vikasa Parva rally at the Subhash Chandra Bose grounds in Chikkamagalur on Sunday, the JD(S) chief said that television surveys had indicated that the party would clinch 40 seats. "Without us no one can form a government," he claimed.

"I have no ambitions of becoming chief minister. I am a former CM. Even if we get 40 seats as predicted, I will not go to anybody's door asking for chief ministership. If there is a coalition government, then the party we support must back our development programs," he averred.

Kumaraswamy said that he was confident that the people of the state would back JD(S) and the party would win over 113 seats. He also said after touring northern Karnataka he was confident that JD(S) would win seven seats in Vijayapura, seven in Bidar, six in Raichur.
