Union Minister of State Skill Development and Entrepreneu-rship Rajiv Pratap Rudy visited the KIOCL-QUESS Academy located at KIOCL’s blast furnace unit in Panambur on the occasion of the 70th Independence Day on Monday.
On the occasion, he said around 18 lakh engineering students are educated. But they do not get the jobs of their desire or need to work for meagre salary of Rs 8,000 to 10,000 per month due to lack of skills. The minister said the skill development centres started as part of Skill India Project—an ambitious initiative by the prime minister—are trying to impart skills to youths and find out various ways to enhance the skills of students to be successful in career.
He congratulated KIOCL for being the first PSU to materialise the project of Skill India by starting the KIOCL-QUESS Academy with the QUESS Corp Pvt Ltd, which is enlightening lives of students of ITI, diploma and engineering students on various practical skills required for their future endeavours. The training centre can also be expanded, he added. He said every 10 weeks of school education requires 12 weeks of training to enhance skills.
MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik said if the Skill India Project had been started 70 years ago and India would have been a developed country by now. Due to skill development, the students can shine not only at national but also at international level, he observed.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, KIOCL Director (Production and Projects) N Vidyanada and others were present. Saplings were planted on KIOCL premises.
