The High Court, on Friday, directed the SPs of all districts and police commissioners of all commissionerates in the State to file an affidavit with regard to the enforcement of a police complaint authority.

A petition was filed seeking directions to implement the Supreme Court order to introduce a police complaint authority.

While hearing the petition, Justice A N Venugopala Gowda observed that the State government would have to face the music if it did not cooperate in implementing rules laid down by the Supreme Court.

The bench directed the SPs and the police commissioners to submit affidavits on ensuring awareness about the police complaint authority, appointment of chairpersons and members to the authority, having helplines and complaint boxes outside courts, police stations and other public places.

The bench directed that the affidavits must be submitted to the Karnataka Legal Services Authority by February 15. The bench passed an order directing the officials of the Home department to implement the court order dated October 9, 2015.

The order had directed the officials of the Legal Services Authority to enforce the Supreme Court’s orders and adjourned the next hearing to February 19, 2016.
