The Indian Coastguard ship rescued 10 crew members from a stranded fishing boat on Thursday.
During an ongoing search and rescue operation, the people on the boat ‘Divine Spirit’ were brought to New Mangalore Port. The crew members had been stranded due to rough seas.

Ahead of the Independence Day, the Indian Coast Guard headquarters, Mangaluru, has initiated various measures to augment safety and security of the seas off Karnataka. Three fast patrol vessels, two hovercrafts and one Dornier have been given the responsibility of patrolling the seas. An additional aerial and larger sea-going vehicles are being deployed to supplement the efforts.
The commander, Coast Guard, Karnataka, took stock of the situation and oversaw the elaborate plans for the layered safety and security of the State. In a systematic approach, the hovercraft will undertake close coast patrolling, while the ships will be deployed at inner flanks and the Dornier aircraft will cover the extended sea areas. The Remote Operating Station, meanwhile, will provide the required electronic surveillance and ground support.
