The PES Institute of Technology won the third place in 5:5 simurSot competition and Birla Institute of Technology, Pilani, created a world record in weight-lifting in large size category.

The robot created by the institute lifted 40 discs in 100 seconds.  Two teams from Taiwan emerged as the champions in the humanoid category and a team from Singapore won the marathon.

The main aim in bringing FIRA Robot World Cup to India was to draw the young minds towards the field of robotics and its applications. “Indian students have immense potential in the field of robotics. But due to monetary reasons they never participated in the World Cup. So it was necessary to organise the event in the country,” said Dr Prahlad Vadakkepat, president of FIRA India Robotic Society.

The FIRA India Robotic Society was inaugurated during the event to provide technological support and information to aspiring students. Henceforth, the Society will conduct a national event on the lines of FIRA World Cup in India every year.

The low turnout reflected the lack of interest of the government and IT sector. With Bangalore being the IT capital, many foreign delegates raised questions on the absence of IT big-wigs from the event.
