An 18-month-old baby boy died in Anekannambadi village near Hallimysuru on Sunday shortly after being administered polio drops.

Health Department officials, however, insisted that the death was not caused by polio immunisation.

The child developed complications and died minutes after being given polio drops as part of the nationwide campaign.

Taluk Health Officer Dr Rajesh, who visited the village, said 145 children were administered polio drops at Anekannambadi and all of them were fine. “Polio immunisation is not responsible for the child’s death,” he claimed.

Paediatrician Dr Prashanth and Deputy Superintendent of Police K Arun, too, visited the village.
