The inflow of water from Maharashtra into the river Krishna increased to 1.44 lakh cusecs on Tuesday as the catchment areas of the river and its tributaries continue to receive copious rains.
Seven low-lying bridges in Chikkodi taluk continue to remain underwater for the second consecutive week and more are expected to get inundated.
Inflow from Rajapur barrage was 1.19 lakh cusecs on Tuesday; and 25,696 cusecs from the tributary Doodhganga.
Upstream reservoirs like Koyna, Radhanagari, Dhoom Varana, Kalammawadi and Kaner are receiving copious inflows.
Once they reach the brim, more water will be discharged into river Krishna and its tributaries in Maharashtra. This will lead to flooding in downstream Karnataka.
River Krishna and its tributaries Doodhganga & Vedganga were already flowing above the danger mark and flooding agricultural lands along the banks. Temples have also been flooded.
Villagers along the banks of the rivers have been asked to be cautious and not venture into the rivers.
