The Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and Niti Aayog are envisaging 'Innovation Bazaars' to mentor budding entrepreneurs, said K Vijay Raghavan, secretary of Biotechnology department, Ministry of Science and Technology.
“Innovation is extremely important for India,” he said in his address through video conference at the two-day Collège de France innovation workshop titled “Innovation: Technological, Political and Societal dimensions,” that began here on Wednesday.
The workshop is bringing together leading researchers from France and India to deliberate on innovation in various dimensions.
Prof V S Ramamurthy, former secretary, Department of Science & Technology (DST) and former director of NIAS, said, “Innovation in social sciences and economics are critical in order to take the innovations in science and technology to the common man.”
Professor H Sharat Chandra, Honorary Director, Centre for Human Genetics, spoke on the role of aesthetics in science and innovation.
Professor Anne Cheng, Chair of Chinese Intellectual History, ‘College de France’ said, “The college was established more than five hundred years ago by French king Francis the 1st, as a counter to the Sorbonne, which was then under the influence of the Church. The Collège de France was therefore set up to “teach everything” which the Sorbonne did not.”
‘Le College de France, Five Centuries of Research’, a book co-authored by Antoine Compagnon, Pierre Corvol and John Scheid, was formally launched.
