Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday said the government would take a decision on filing an appeal in the Supreme Court against the acquittal of former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalitha after consulting the Law department.
Interacting with the media in Bengaluru, Siddaramaiah said the High Court verdict on the acquittal of Jayalalitha was being studied in detail.
Replying to a query that State-appointed Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) B V Acharya had stated that the High Court judgment was erroneous as the judge had wrongly calculated the disproportionate assets of Jayalalitha, Siddaramaiah said, “We will discuss with the SPP and the Law department, study the judgement and then decide whether to file an appeal or not.”
On political parties including DMK, PMK demanding that the State government file an appeal against the High Court verdict, Siddaramaiah said the government would take a decision on its own and had nothing to do with either the DMK or AIADMK. A single bench judge on Monday had set aside a trial court verdict that had sentenced Jayalalitha and three others to four years imprisonment for amassing wealth beyond their known source of income.
