To disperse the crowd the police had to cane the protesters including JD(S) district unit president D Ramesh. Later, they arrested legislator M Srinivas, City Municipal Council Arun Kumar, Vice-president Chikkanna among others. The police also picked up legislators C S Puttaraju and A B Ramesh Babu on the outskirts of Yeliyur. Similar protests were registered in all the taluk headquarters.
The police have arrested three more persons for preventing a vehicle carrying Bhagyalakshmi beneficiaries at Malvalli.
