Prof Sudhakar was handed over a cheque for Rs five lakh and a statuette of ‘Dasa-Sreshta Kanakadasa’.

Sudhakar said Kanakadasa was popular not only in Karnataka but also in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan where Kanak Vrundavan was built by Maharana Pratap in Jaipur.

“Kanakadasa emphasised on taking a dip in ‘Jnana Teertha’ but not in Ganga Teertha,” said Sudhakar.

He appealed to the officials of Kannada and Culture Department to translate Dasa literature in Hindi so that people in North India could also enjoy the nectar of these scriptures. Govind Karjol said people should follow the path shown by Kanakadasa.
