Udupi: Three people were killed and several others injured in a road accident that occurred on the National Highway near Kambala Cross in Miyar village, under the limits of Karkala Town Police Station, on Friday.

According to the police, a private bus travelling from Dharmasthala towards Karkala collided with a multi utility vehicle that was on its way from Kalaburagi to Udupi and then heading towards Dharmasthala. The deceased are MUV driver Mannappa, Chetu and Rohit.

The MUV was carrying a total of 13 passengers, including a child. Of them, three persons died on the spot. One critically injured person has been shifted to KMC Hospital, Manipal, for advanced treatment. A child who sustained minor injuries has been admitted to a hospital in Karkala. The remaining injured passengers are also undergoing treatment at the Karkala hospital.

Further investigation is in progress.
