The Karnataka Housing Board (KHB) will acquire land for developing satellite townships and provide housing to economical weaker sections (EWS). The land owners would be given transferable development rights (TDR) for 60 per cent of the land acquired.

Housing Minister M H Ambareesh told reporters here on Tuesday that the Cabinet had okayed the proposal and soon talks would be held with land owners and developers to acquire land for developing satellite townships.

Satellite townships would have all the required infrastructure. Landowners too would be benefited as they would not only get 40 per cent developed land, but are also free to retain or sell the TDR. Land registration duty and development charges would be waived for landowners, he added.

Funds to the beneficiaries of housing schemes would be directly credited to their bank after the details of houses were updated on the website along with details with Global Positioning System (GPS).

Panchayat development officers and nodal officers too would be trained to use the GPS and ensure the beneficiaries weren’t deprived of benefits, Ambareesh said.
