The Karnataka Janata Party (KJP) executive committee has convened a meeting on Monday to discuss, among other issues, the BJP's offer of merger.
The KJP has been a divided house ever since the BJP made the offer. Senior leader of the party K H Srinivas has already announced his resignation opposing the merger.
Two of the party MLAs – B R Patil and Gurupadappa Nagamarapalli – are learnt to have refused even tie-up with the BJP, let alone the merger. But three other MLAs – Guru Patil, Vishwanath Patil and U B Banakar – are said to have agreed for the merger.
Many staunch followers of KJP founder B S Yeddyurappa are of the view that the party should only enter into an alliance with the BJP.
Yeddyurappa too had recently written to the BJP leaders, expressing his
party's readiness to be part of the NDA at the national level.
The KJP has also planned to celebrate its first anniversary and felicitate Yeddyurappa on the occasion, sources said.
