The organisational elections to the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) are set to begin on May 15. The calendar of events for holding the elections has been notified for various posts including that of the KPCC president.
The elections will be held for booth, block, district Congress committees and finally for the post of Pradesh Congress committee president. The entire process will be concluded by September.
The arnataka Pradesh Congress Committeeshould have an elected president. But usually, the person who is handpicked by the Delhi leaders ends up becoming the president. The incumbent president G Parameshwara has been holding the post for four years and seven months now.
Lingayat or a Vokkaliga
Sources in the Congress said that this time either a Lingayat or a Vokkaliga will replace Parameshwara, who may finally join the Siddaramaiah cabinet. Parameshwara told Deccan Herald, “The organisational elections will begin on May 15. There will be a change in the KPCC presidentship. Henceforth, the tenure of the post will be five years. It was three years till now.”
To a question whether he would become minister, he said his decision has not changed. “I do not know whether I will be in the cabinet, because my aim is not to end up as just a minister, “ he said. The KPCC chief stopped short of saying that he was ready only for the post of deputy chief minister.
The names which are doing the rounds for the president’s post are Appaji Nadagouda, T B Jayachandra, Krishna Byre Gowda and S R Patil. Parameshwara said, “I have no idea who will be the president. I am just reading the names in the media”.
Digvijaya to skip rally
Parameshwara said AICC general secretary Digvijaya Singh will not attend the party’s rally in Davangere on May 16. The rally is organised to mark the completion of two years of the Siddaramaiah government. KPCC general secretary Boseraj said that instead of Singh, former union minister Jairam Ramesh will attend the rally, besides the party MPs from Karnataka, ministers and legislators.
