The registrar of Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University was arrested by the Lokayukta police while he was accepting a bribe of Rs one lakh at his house on Tuesday.

According to Lokayukta police, Katepaga Vijayakumar, the registrar, had demanded a bribe of Rs 3.50 lakh to renew the recognition of Royal BEd College.

Complaint filed

Afil Ahmed, a member of the college management had lodged a complaint with the Lokayukta police. Acting on the complaint, the Lokayukta police had laid a trap to catch him
red-hand.

Vijayakumar was arrested while he was receiving Rs one lakh as the first installment of the bribe, at his residence on Tuesday night, according to G S Hebbal, Inspector of Lokayukta,
Ballari. Vijayakumar has been remanded in judicial custody, the police said.A team led by the Lokayukta Superintendent of Police conducted the raid.
