The Udupi district unit of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha has opposed the proposed Yettinahole project and Netravathi river diversion project and said that politicians and bureaucrats are deceiving people in the name of the project.
Speaking to mediapersons Vice President of State unit of KRRS Vijay Kumar Hegde said that people are kept in dark and are not provided with sufficient information on the project. He alleged that the pros and cons of the project are not revealed to the people.
He warned that the project will lead to destruction of environment, agriculture and horticulture crops in Dakshina Kannada district. The project will have a catastrophic impact on the Western Ghats. The government had not taken the opinion of the people and farmers living in Dakshina Kannada district. The implementation of the project will lead to drinking water scarcity in the district. Crops like paddy, sugarcane, arecanut, and coconut grown in the district would suffer due to lack of water, Hegde said.
