H S Doreswamy, veteran freedom fighter and advisor to the Association has said that nearly 300 KSTDC taxis ply on the route frequently and the proposed toll may not be in their “best interest.”

“ A majority of the taxi drivers have purchased their vehicles borrowing loan. The new toll will be a huge burden on them,” he said.

He also questioned the location of the toll booth right in front of airport route.

‘Relaxation’

General secretary of the Association Neelakantaiah said there was no problem with collecting toll on vehicles moving out of the City, but sought relaxation for taxies plying on the route.

He said each taxi pays Rs 9,750 per month for parking at the BIA and another Rs 2,000 to the call centre which books customers.

The proposed toll would impose an additional burden of Rs 6,000 to Rs 8,000 on taxi drivers.

The concerns of the drivers had been communicated to the government and the Association would be compelled to stage a protest if the proposal was not dropped, he added.
