But the development of private bus stand has still remained as distant dream thanks to lack of basic amenities. Though the land, commercial complex and other properties belonged to the CMC, no efforts are made to improve civic amenities. Last week, the CMC president M P Arunkumar, members and officials visited the spot and took stock of the situation.

The team was shocked to see the damaged overhead water tank, water leakage and growth of algae nearby the tank. Heaps of garbage was piled up nearby the drain that was emanating foul smell. The toilets were poorly maintained. Councillor Nanjundappa, who is also owner of the private bus, said over 100 private buses are operated from Mandy to various destinations daily from this point. The CMC has not bothered to provide basic facilities to people though it collects rent and tax from private bus operators.

He alleged the road connecting to private bus stand to highway has not been developed at all. Arunkumar assured to give priority to provide basic facilities to commuters at that bus stand and said the CMC has invited tenders for various works.
