In an attempt to draw global attention to the lesser-known rural characteristics of Karnataka, the State Tourism Department has been showcasing varied crafts of the State at the international tourism fair (International Tourismus Borse) being held at Berlin, Germany, from March 6 to 10.

Six pillars depicting Channapatna’s lacquer ware, painting patterns that showcased the styles of Lambani, Bidriware designs, Navalgund Dhurries (including 4 bright carpets laid over the floor) and Kasuti are display at the fair — dubbed as the largest trade fair in the world.

It is a departure from the normal depiction of the State using pictures this year.
It is an attempt to bring little known villages of the State to the global attention. The Karnataka delegation to the fair is led by Additional Chief Secretary, Tourism Department, Arvind Jadhav, according to an official release.

A number of large and popular German tour operators like Studiosus, Gebecco, Ikarus, Comtour, Tischler and TourAsia of Switzerland are holding meetings with the Karnataka officials.

The main intention of these meetings are to ensure that lesser known destinations and more intrinsic experiences are gave public and industry explosure to help pave the way for their inclusion in holiday catalogues and websites, the release stated.
