Lambani embroidery gets GI recognition

With this, Sandur Lambani embroidery joins the group of Darjeeling Tea, Mysore Silk, Kancheerpuram silk and others, according to Zahed Mulla, an advocate and expert in IPR and GI.

Mulla said Sandur Lambani embroidery is unique not only because of its stitches but also because of the natural dyeing and printing, which is done by Lambani craftswomen.

The design used in printing has been influenced by the elements of nature.

The artisans of Sandur Lambani embroidery can now encash on this GI. Those using GI illegally could be imprisoned for a period ranging from six months to three years or the fine could range from Rs 50,000 to Rs three lakh.
