Managing Director of Karnataka Public Lands Corporation Limited (KPLC) Dr N V Prasad on Thursday categorically instructed the officers to clear encroachment of government land.

Presiding over the meeting held at the deputy commissioner’s office in town, Prasad directed officers to look into the disputes over such properties that are now before various courts and take further action.

The focus should be on identifying government land and fence such sites with government funds released for such work. In the case of otherwise, it would become difficult to find land for anganwadi centre buildings, schools, hospitals and hostels. It is therefore the prime responsibility of officers, irrespective of cadre, to be cautious in protecting government land, said Prasad.

Survey work

Deputy Commissioner Dr Richard Vincent D’Souza said, “The tahsildar has been directed to launch survey work on the disputed sites and take actions on protecting the same.”

R Nagaraj Shetty, special officer of the corporation, said most of the cases related to land disputes are registered in Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru and Mysuru.

Assistant Commissioner Dr Nanjundegowda, tahsildars Kusuma, Mahesh and Govindaraju, Director of Planning, Urban Development Department Mohammed Muneer, Deputy Director of Land Records Vidyayini, Assistant Director Shamshuddin and Shirastedar Prakash were present at the meeting.
