The last rites of Hanumanth Byali, the soldier from Konnur in the taluk, were performed at his village on Monday afternoon. Byali had died in a boat accident at Nakrot in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday night.

Byali’s body was brought to the village in an Army vehicle. Legislator B R Yavagal, deputy commissioner Prasanna Kumar and other dignitaries paid their last respects to the soldier.

The mortal remains were taken out in a procession on the streets of Konnur. Almost all people from the village accompanied the vehicle carrying the body during the procession. Some people climbed atop a mobile tower for a glimpse of the body.

Members of Byali’s family were inconsolable when the body was brought to their house.  District incharge minister H K Patil, member of parliament P C Gaddigouder, former minister C C Patil, senior police officers and a few religious leaders were present during the final rites at a site belonging to the Gram Panchayat.
