Hungund Congress MLA Vijayanand Kashappanavar, who allegedly assaulted two police constables along with his aides at a bar in the UB City in Bangalore, is not new to complaints or controversies.
In Kashappanavar’s home constituency, 15 cases in which he was the main accused, were registered against him. Even today the MLA is attending court proceedings in this regard.
From 2002 to 2013, cases related to property dispute, crop damage, cheque bounce, life threat, attack, threat to granite businessmen from China, poll code violations and others have been registered against Kashappanavar in Hungund and Ilkal police stations.
Of the 15 cases, six have been disposed of for lack of evidence while police have filed ‘B’ report in another five cases. The investigations are on in rest four cases.
Most of the cases have been booked under Section 324 of the Indian Penal Code (attack, issuing life threat).
The cases registered against Kashappanavar are due to the reckless behaviour of his supporters, leaders from his party said.
Further, it is also alleged that the cases are politically motivated as he entered politics at a young age and has a growing clout in the region which is not tolerated by his rivals.
Adding to this, the MLA is notorious for his short temper.
Kashappanavar is the son of former minister late S R Kashappanavar and former legislator Gowramma. He first contested the Assembly elections in 2008 but lost.
However, he won the election in 2013. No cases have been registered against him after he was elected MLA.
