On a tip off from villagers, Forest department staff trapped a nine-year-old male leopard at the foot of Jenukal Siddeshwara Swamy hill at Yadapura taluk in Arasikere Friday night.

The leopard that roamed around in fields and farms at the foot of the hills had created fear among residents of nearby villages.

People confined themselves to their houses in the evening. On Friday evening, villagers who spotted the leopard lying under a bridge near the connecting road to Murundi village, informed the Forest department.

Snare laid

The staff, who arrived at the spot, laid a snare, a little far from where the leopard was lying. At around 9 pm, the leopard was trapped, in its bid to eat chickens kept as bait.

The leopard suffered minor injuries in its leg and is now being treated by veterinarians, said Range Forest Officer J J Ravi.
