The literary meet organised by the Akhila Bharatiya Sahithya Parishath resolved to urge the government to include Kodava and Tulu in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution. The state government should send recommendations on the same to the Centre.
Other resolutions that were passed were Bharath Rathna for Field Marshal K M Cariappa and to initiate measures to prevent pollution of Talacauvery. Yashwanth, a youth from Gonikoppa, has completed his jail term in Pakistan. However, no efforts have been made to bring him back to India. The literary meet urged the government to bring him back.
Earlier, inaugurating the meet, Akhila Bharatiya Sahithya Parishath State unit president Doddarange Gowda said, "Farmers are the backbone of the country. It is a tragedy that they have to beg for help. They should get direct marketing facilities, without the middlemen, in order to survive."
Stating that Ramayana and Mahabharata are like two eyes, he said, "Ramayana has taught values, while Mahabharatha has highlighted problems encountered due to scuffle."
Parishath General Secretary Raghunandan Bhat said that the Parishath aims to introduce literature that is relevant to society. Literature binds people together."
In the multilingual poets meet, poets recited poems in Kannada, Kodava, Arebhashe, Tulu, Konkani, Malayalam, Telugu and Hindi. The meet was presided by poet Nagesh Kalooru.
