The High Court on Friday quashed Lokayukta proceedings against former minister M P Renukarcharya after it was found that there were no sufficient documents against him to proceed with the inquiry into his alleged disproportionate wealth.

Justice Rathnakala passed the order after Renukarcharya’s counsel Hasmath Pasha submitted that Lokayukta police had not applied their mind while registering the complaint as it was not lodged as per the sections of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC)

The complainant, Gurupadaiah Mathad, a resident of Davangere, had alleged that Renukarcharya’s declared assets ahead of Assembly elections in 2008 were just around Rs 73 lakh.  Renukacharya’s declared assets ahead of 2013 elections stood at Rs 4.95 crore.

The complainant had alleged that the minister had amassed wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income.  The bench allowed the petition of the former minister, quashing the proceedings against him and three of his brothers.
