The bypolls were held due to death of Kadur MLA K M Krishnamurthy.

BJP candidate Dr Vishwanath got 55,790 votes, thereby defeating his contenders JD(S) candidate Y S V Datta and Congress candidate Kemparaju by a margin of 13,897 and 25,466 votes respectively.

Datta got a total of 41,899 votes while Kemparaju bagged 30,330 votes.

Ban neglected

Dr Vishwanath, the newly elected MLA of Kadur constituency celebrated his victory along with supporters in a grand manner on Thursday by taking out a procession on all major roads in the city. The irony is that all this celebration took place with the section 144 in force.

Supporters of Dr Vishwanath burst crackers on all major roads and later took him in a procession across the city in a open jeep but the police remained mute spectators to the gala show. The procession passed through Malleshwara circle, KLV circle and reached Birur where large number of people gathered to congratulate Dr Vishwanath.

Addressing the reporters after taking part in the celebration, Dr Y C Vishwanath said that it was the reputation of the party and dedication of the party workers which brought him success.Newly elected MLA Dr Vishwanath said that he will give priority to complete irrigation projects in the region and to improve road connectivity.

Thanking the party workers for their sincere and dedicated service, Dr Vishwanath said that he will try his level best to live up to the expectation of the electorate of the constituency.

He said that since the people of the region have blessed BJP, he will try his level best to bring the problems of the people to the notice of the Government and solve.

JD(S) candidate Y S V Datta congratulated Dr Vishwanath at the counting centre itself.
