Both the accused Mallikarjun (31) and the victim Lavanya (20) were initially treated at the primary health centre and have been shifted to district hospital. Mallikarjun is an employee of a hotel and has a son and daughter. Lavanya, who had failed in PUC sold shampoo and did menial jobs. When Lavanya was on her way to work in an autorickshaw along with two others on Thursday, Mallikarjun intercepted the autorickshaw, pulled Lavanya out and stabbed her in the stomach before slitting his throat. Public admitted both of them to a hospital.
