Lovers commit suicide in P'pura

Dejected over parents’ opposition to their affair, lovers committed suicide by hanging themselves to the same tree has come to light at Aralukuppe village in the taluk on Friday.

The deceased have been identified as Srinivas (22), son of Lakshminarayana-Savitharamma, belonging to scheduled caste of Aralukuppe village and Rashmi (17), daughter of Kumar-Bharathi couple belonging to Vokkaliga community.

It is said that the lovers hung themselves to the same branch of a tamarind tree on the outskirts of the village. It is also alleged that the duo had consumed soft drink laced with poison before hanging themselves.

Srinivas was working at Falcon tyres in Mysore and Rashmi had studied up to 9th standard and was at home. It is said that they were in love since the past five years.

Initially their love affair was not known to their family members or the villagers but when they came to know about their friendship they opposed as they belonged to different communities.

The bodies were shifted to Pandavapura hospital mortuary and was later handed over to their relatives. A case has been registered.
