LPG distributors have deferred their strike till March 31 following an assurance from the oil marketing companies (OMCs) to look into their demands.
As of now, the supply of LPG to customers will not be affected. The decision followed a meeting between the OMCs and the distributors.
Confirming it, Captain Lingaraju B L, senior vice president, All India LPG Distribution Federation (Karnataka Circle) told Deccan Herald that the OMCs had constituted a high-powered committee constituting the oil companies’ general managers and representatives from the distributors’ federation. “We have deferred it for the time being based on the assurance given by the oil companies. The high-powered committee will submit its report by March 31. We will take a call based on it,” said Lingaraju.
On Sunday, distributors across the country had threatened to go on an indefinite strike against OMCs and the Ministry of Petroleum that had failed to meet their demands, which include uniform
pricing of cylinders, checking the sale of spurious cylinders, foolproof delivery system and review of the existing distributorship agreement. The distributors, wanted the government to check the sale of 2 kg, 3 kg and 5 kg hazardous and illegal cylinders being sold in the market.
