Naveen, a resident of Ashokapuram had just opened his tea shop at 6.30 pm. He went out to buy matchbox in another shop, when he heard a thud. He turned back only to see his shop crushed to the ground under a branch of baage tree.
It had also caused snapping of the electricity line plunging the localities nearby — Krishnamurthypuram, Ashokapuram — into total darkness, besides affecting parts of JLB road near Ramaswamy Circle and Dewan’s road.
Naveen who was visibly shaken for a while, couldn’t hide his joy, when he discovered it was nothing short of rebirth. Had he stayed inside his shop, he would have lost his life, said a shopkeeper, also an eyewitness.
Moreover, the particular stretch though remains busy was sans traffic at that time, thus saving many a lives.
A team of personnel attached to Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (Cesc), led by assistant engineer M S Manjegowda of Chamundipuram sub-division swung into action.
The engineer told Deccan Herald that though the poles stand intact, the other equipment like lamps and wires have been damaged causing a loss of Rs 50,000.
Power supply for Ashokapuram is expected to be restored in the night, while it will take Thursday afternoon for Krishnamurthypuram.
Two days ago, a branch of another tree near the mishap site had also fallen, but no casualty was reported.
Dhanush, an emergency wing of Mysore City Corporation (MCC) also rushed to the spot lending a helping hand to Cesc to clear the branch for free flow of traffic.
