Madikeri Rural Police have nabbed a man in connection with the murder of an elderly woman on the outskirts of Madikeri town.

Anil, a native of Moodbidri, working at a private resort in Madikeri, is the arrested.

He had allegedly murdered Lalitha (70), at her house in K Nidugane village in Madikeri Rural Police Station limits recently, and had stolen gold jewellery and cash from her house.

The superintendent of police had formed a special team to arrest the accused.

During the investigation, the accused has admitted that he had murdered the elderly woman, by attacking her with an iron rod.

Anil, the arrested man, is a mechanical engineer. About 72 grams of gold ornaments worth Rs 2.80 lakh, stolen by him from Lalitha's house and sold at various places in Moodbidri and Mangaluru, have been seized, along with Rs 4,000 in cash, weapon and a motorbike used for the crime, Superintendent of Police Kshama Mishra told reporters in a press meet.

Madikeri Sub-Division DySP B P Dinesh Kumar, PSI Ravikiran, DCIB personnel Yogesh Kumar, Niranjan, Sharath Rai, Madikeri Rural Police Station staff members Ravi Kumar, Manjunath, Dinesh, Somashekhar Sajjan, Siddapura Police Station ASI Thammaiah, staff members Lavakumar, DCIB ASI Hamid, Anil Kumar, Venkatesh, Vasanth, Suresh, Shashikumar and CDR cell staff Rajesh and Girish were part of the special team.
