Man creates ruckus over suicide

The police and Fire and Emergency Services personnel rescued a man, who threw his one-year-old child to Kali river and tried to end his life by jumping into Kali river, in the city on Wednesday.

Shankar Banjara, 40, a construction worker who hails from Hangal in Haveri district, jumped into the river on Tuesday night. However, he was rescued by Devabagh resort personnel along with the child. Though he was admitted to a hospital, he escaped from there, created ruckus and again jumped into the river on Wednesday. The locals called the police and Fire and Emergency Services personnel who rescued him.

The child is out of danger and he is mentally distressed, it is learnt. A case has been registered at Chittakula police station in this regard.
