The Forest department has formed teams to capture the tiger roaming on the outskirts of Mudgai village near Jamboti Forest Range in Khanapur taluk.
Five teams comprising eight members, including a shooter, a forest guard, a veterinary doctor and others, are on the task. The beast continued to remain elusive, giving the search teams a slip. The Forest department has been authorised to kill the tiger, while baits have been placed at various places and trained elephants are also being used.
Deputy Conservator of Forests Ambady Madhav said that tigers often returned to the spots where they had previously hunted their preys. The tiger had mauled to death a 23-year-old woman on Wednesday when she had gone to fetch water for her family members who were working in the fields.
Following the incident, residents from surrounding villages protested, demanding that the Forest department capture the wild cat.
The man-eater had killed a horse at Dorle village in Khanapur taluk on Thursday and was spotted at Yabnal village and at Olmani village on Friday. The tiger’s presence has triggered panic among the villagers.
A woman suffered injuries after a fall, while rushing home, fearing the tiger might have entered Pandarhalli village.
