A man was arrested at Indira Gandhi International Airport for his alleged involvement in circulation of fake Indian currency notes, police said on Wednesday.
Fake notes with a face value of Rs 52,000 in the denomination of Rs 1,000 have been seized from Syed Mohammad Ali, a native of Chikkaballapur district in Karnataka.
“Ali had arrived from Tehran on a Mahan Air flight on Tuesday evening. On suspicion, he and his baggage were searched and fake notes were found,” a police officer said.
The notes were sealed in a white cloth parcel and kept in a polythene bag. He was handed over to police, after the staff of a bank at the airport confirmed that the notes were fake.
The IGI Airport police have booked Ali under Section 489C (possession of forged or counterfeit currency) of the Indian Penal Code.
