Man from nomadic community wins election

A candidate belonging to Shillekyatha community has registered victory against Zilla Panchayat member Anand Ravi’s father in the gram panchayat election.

The only seat in Kodihalli constituency under Nagaraghatta gram panchayat was reserved for  General category. Ravi’s father Ramanna had contested for this seat. D Raju, a hair pin and hair seller hailing from the nomadic Shillekyatha community, filed his nomination paper for the seat. Kumar, another candidate, was also in the fray.

After the counting of votes, Ramanna had to be satisfied with the third place. Raju has become a ray of hope for the community by winning the election.

Raju, who has studied till SSLC, has familiar as a people-friendly person and it is said that this is the reason for his victory.

Double victory
A man and his wife, who had contested for the Nagaraghatta Gram panchayat’s two constituencies, have won the election.

It is the second-time victory for Anand. His wife Veena has been elected to the gram panchayat from adjacent N Melanahalli constituency (BCMB seat). Anand and Veena reside at a farm house between Nagaraghatta and N Melanahalli. Anand has the credit of being elected to gram panchayat from another constituency.
