Energy Minister D K Shivakumar on Saturday urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to order an inquiry into charges made by JD(S) leader H D Deve Gowda against him in connection with the allotment of excess land to promoters of the Bangalore Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) project.

He wrote a letter to the chief minister on Friday, rubbishing Gowda’s charges, claiming that it as an attempt to project him in bad light. “Land grant powers come under the Revenue, Public Works departments and the chief minister. Since I was never in charge of any of these ministries, the issue of granting land does not even arise,” he stated.

Gowda and his son H D Kumaraswamy are unable to come to terms with the political growth of his brother D K Suresh and himself, he alleged. Charges made in the past of his involvement in illegal mining were proved baseless, he said, adding that the JD(S) and BJP had now joined hands to accuse ministers in the Congress government of corruption. Their intention is to create political instability, he added.

The government should order a probe into Gowda’s charges and help bring out the truth, Shivakumar said.
