Mangalore doctors perform rare feat

Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday, Omega Hospital Chairman Dr K Mukund said Amitha, a 27-year-old woman from Farangipet was suffering from loss of consciousness and severe pain in both hands. On diagnosis, it was found that 95 to 98 per cent blocks in four arteries. This causes paralysis and brain death in some cases. The specialists planned for a safer procedure using protection device and specially designed groin artery and a specially devised catheters from USA.

The team that included Dr Mukund, Dr H Prabhakar and Dr Subhash conducted a  four hour-long procedure in two stages. And all four vessels were opened using the protection device to ensure safety.
