Mangaluru: The Mangaluru city police on Monday arrested four youths and a juvenile in connection with the robbery of 1,650 gram gold ingot worth Rs 1.5 crore, from a jewellery shop employee in the city on September 26.
Commissioner of Police Sudheer Kumar Reddy CH said that the arrested are Farish ( 18), from Kotekar village, Safwan (23), from Mukkacheri, Arafat Ali ( 18), from Mastikatte, Faraz (19), from Ullal, and a juvenile in conflict with the law.
The juvenile in conflict with the law was employed at the gold shop in Hampankatta. He in turn had informed Farish, who earlier worked in the same shop, about the complainant Mustafa carrying the gold ingot to a shop in Car Street.
Based on the information, they hatched a conspiracy and planned the robbery. Safwan had arranged the car for the crime.
When Mustafa on his scooter with the gold bar reached Car Street, around 8:30 pm on September 26, arrested Arafat Ali and Faraz, riding a scooter, intercepted him. Later, others arrived in a car. One of them pulled Mustafa off his scooter, causing his mobile phone to fall.
They then threatened him with a knife, forced him into the car, and abducted him. Later, they assaulted him and dropped him at Yekkur, robbing the gold ingot.
The commissioner said the scooter used in the crime has been seized. The police are on search for other accused who had taken the gold bar. The police are yet to recover the gold ingot and car used in the crime.
“We have clues, and police teams are working on it,” the commissioner added.
