Mangaluru: A surprise inspection conducted at the District Prison, Kodialbail, Mangaluru, led to the seizure of prohibited items from an inmate.

According to the complaint filed by Sharanabasappa, Superintendent of the District Jail, the inspection was carried out along with prison officers and staff, inside Room No 3 of ‘A’ Block of the jail premises.

During the inspection, a body search of inmate Mohammed Afreed revealed the presence of an SIM card and a black keypad mobile phone with battery, and a white charging cable, all concealed inside his clothing.

On questioning, Afreed stated that the seized items did not belong to him but to another inmate, Mohammed Iqbal.

Following discussions with senior officials, the Superintendent submitted a complaint seeking appropriate legal action against the concerned inmates for possession of prohibited items inside the prison.
