Mangaluru: An FIR has been registered after a woman filed a complaint at the Panambur Police Station alleging that her gold jewellery and mobile phones were stolen while she was swimming at a beach.
According to the complaint, Swati Nandipalli (24) said that she had come to Mangaluru along with her friend Rohith Vemmaletti for a trip and were staying in a lodge in the city.
On November 24 after breakfast, they went to Panambur beach and entered the sea for swimming.
Before leaving for swimming, she had placed her gold jewellery including a chain (12 gm), locket (2 gm), two rings (2 gm each), earrings (4 gm), a mobile phone (worth around Rs 18,000) and her friend Rohith’s mobile phone (worth around Rs 85,000) in a black bag and kept it on the shore. However, later the bag went missing.
Police said CCTV footage from the beach area showed a man stealing the bag. The complainant informed police that the stolen gold jewellery weighed a total of 22 gm and was worth around Rs 2.30 lakh.
The value of the stolen things including the two mobile phones is around Rs 3.33 lakh.
