The Tannirbavi Beach has been selected under the 'One District One Destination' initiative to promote tourism. A tender has been floated for the maintenance of the main Tannirbavi Beach stretch (barring the beach under the Blue Flag certification).

"The technical evaluation of the bids for the maintenance of the Tannirbavi Beach for the blue flag tag is under way and will be completed shortly. The financial bid is open now. We are happy that huge players have participated in the tender. The bidder will have to maintain the beach for 10 years. We are pleased that major players are participating in the tender process," the Deputy Commissioner said.

"For the Blue Flag Beach, the maintenance contract will be for a 10-year-period, with the successful bidder required to pay Rs 50 lakh in the first year, escalating to Rs two crore in the 10th year, along with not less than 5% in revenue share to be shared with the administration. Once the development is complete, the beach will have continuous activities," he added.

Approximately 90% of the Blue Flag Beach’s development work is complete. The government, including under the Mangaluru Smart City Mission, has spent around Rs 16 crore to develop the Tannirbavi beach. The waste management systems and solar installations, are already operational at the beach. Some works by the Mangaluru Smart City Limited are in progress. Entry fees have been fixed by the district tourism committee.
