<p>Mangaluru: As a part of ongoing month-long Karavali Utsava, the much- awaited beach festival will be held at Tannirbavi beach on January 11 and 12.</p><p>Beach festival committee president who is also Commissioner of Police Anupam Agrawal said that a variety of musical and dance programmes will be held on both the days. </p><p>On January 11, a live concert by Manikanth Kadri will be held. However, due to the sad demise of former PM Manmohan Singh, it was postponed.</p><p>Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan M P said “through beach festival we want to promote Mangaluru as a destination for water sports especially surfing and sailing.” Coastal Karnataka Sailing Club members will come with sailing boats to showcase yachting. January 12 also marks National Youth Day. Programmes are chalked out to mark the occasion. Assembly Speaker U T Khader will be the chief guest for the concluding of the beach festival. Rohan Corporation is the title sponsor for the beach festival, he added.</p><p>To a query on waste management during the beach festival, the DC said that Mangaluru City Corporation will handle it. Already, a cleanliness drive has been carried out on the beach.</p><p>On security, the commissioner police said that a team comprising life guards, coastal security police, Coast Guard and fishermen have been constituted. The team will be deployed at various locations on the beach. Coastal security police will be the nodal agency to look into the security and safety aspect, he added. Further, teams are equipped with ropes, announcement system in case of any emergency situation. Some areas will be barricaded as well. Water sports will conclude by 6.30 pm. Afterwards, none will be allowed to venture into water.</p><p>To a query on response to ongoing Karavali Utsava, the DC said that the response has been overwhelming and 12,000 people had visited Karavali Utsava ground and around 3500 to Kadri Park, on January 5 alone.</p>
