Maths teacher arrested for raping student for six months

A mathematics teacher at Korlagundi Government Higher Primary School was arrested on Thursday for raping a VII standard student repeatedly for the past six months.

The incident came to light on Thursday, after the victim lodged a complaint with the police accusing T Hanumanthappa (38) of sexually assaulting her. The victim in her complaint stated that Hanumanthappa, who offered to take for her special classes after school hours, had been sexually abusing her for the past six months, at a classroom in the school.

The orphaned is under her grandmother’s care. The incident came to light after one of her classmates questioned why she was returning home late after school, every day.

Classmate infroms othersThe victim’s classmate informed the other teachers on Thursday. The issue was later taken up with the members of the School Development and Monitoring Committee (SDMC), who informed the police.

The police who arrested Hanumanthappa at the school, took both the accused and the victim to VIMS hospital in Bellary for a medical examination, said PSI Satish. The teacher has been booked under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code.
