Mysore City Corporation (MCC) officials, on Wednesday, cleared 31 unauthorised shops in the vicinity of the office of regional transport office (RTO, East) on Dr Rajkumar road, in Shakti Nagar, on the outskirts of the city.

This follows a complaint by the residents of the locality to the office of Lokayukta, alleging that the petty shops that had mushroomed after the said office was opened two years ago, had turned into a bane. Most of the shops were catering to the public visiting the RTO with stationery materials and food items.

Earlier, MCC officials had served notices on such shopkeepers, asking them to vacate. On Monday (January 20) too, a final notice was served, after which some of the shopkepers vacated on their own volition, with 31 shops still remaining. Mobile shop vendors were spared as they move away with their push carts after the day’s business. On Wednesday morning, around 8 am, earth moving machines of the MCC and gangmen were pressed into service to complete the clearance drive without any confusion.
